I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was small. Over the years I’ve honed my skills in a range of genres across fiction and non-fiction. But a curious thing happened during that time. Family, friends and colleagues continually asked and trusted me to review their writing, and I discovered that coaxing words into resonance with a work’s purpose filled me with my own.

Writing was a love at first sight, but editing has been a profound, slow-burn romance.

I received my bachelor’s in English and antiquity from the University of Toronto and was a founding member and chair of the Toronto Arts & Letters Club writing group. I’ve held a variety of corporate roles, including in project management, adult learning and human resources.

Since then, my career has shifted to editing full time. I’ve continued to sharpen my industry knowledge and skills through Queen’s University and my membership with both Editors Canada and CIEP. It’s a dream come true to support writers on the journey to inspire the world.

I chose the name “Elixir” for the connection to alchemy. The pursuit of transmutation seemed an apt comparison to the writer’s craft—spinning words into gold.

Elixir’s values reflect a few other aspects of the philosophy:

Sustantia (substance): harmonizing words with meaning and vision

Immortalis (immortality): celebrating the legacy of the author and the written word

Spiritus (spirit): safeguarding the joy of writing and removing barriers to publication

Also, heavy ties to ancient times and speculative fiction? Count me in. A lot of my specialty genres feature alchemists, wizards or other practitioners of the arcane, metaphorically or not. I may have even referenced it in my own writing.

What can I say? I’m a nerd.

Why “Elixir”?
