Updates to Post Format & Frequency

I’ve long held that social contracts (even if it’s just me announcing an intent to follow through on something) help tremendously with my productivity, so it’s only fair that I address it when things change. Here’s a quick post to share some updates to blog format and frequency.

Since I started a few months back, I’ve really enjoyed posting weekly to my blog. I’m happy to say though that other work has increased in the meantime, and I am now finding it less realistic to carry forward at a weekly pace. The deep dives and ruminations on writing are something near and dear to my heart (and who knows—maybe they’re helpful too), and I still want to be able to do them. They just won’t be as frequent.

Until something changes (which is, of course, inevitable in life), future posts will come out every two weeks on The Laboratory. That said, I’m also trying to give myself a break if I’m not perfectly on the ball each time. I have to remind myself sometimes that I post here because I enjoy doing it. I never want this to be a chore.

I’m also on other platforms (perhaps most importantly Instagram), where I’ll still aim to post once a week for the time being, although I’ll be mixing things up with shorter form content. While longer posts are fun for me to delve into, breaking things up every now and then isn’t a bad idea. As a bonus, I’ll have more time to engage with the writing and editing communities.

I do have other accounts (Twitter/X and Facebook), but I’ve noticed that some platforms are more my speed than others. I might poke around some more on these ones, but for the most part, I’ll be concentrating my efforts on this blog, first and foremost, Instagram and LinkedIn (which is basically a repeat of what you see here).

I’m also using this as an opportunity to play around with format. I’ve found producing content according to a set framework is helpful for me, but I also know that things can get stale. I never want to restrict myself from trying out new things.

Lastly, I thought I’d mention that if you’re interested in a particular topic, I encourage you to let me know! You can always email me at marykehoe@elixireditorial.ca or comment below with your thoughts.

See you in two weeks!
